*This week SERF started the Global Angels Feeding Project. Here follows a letter to Molly at Global Angels about the project from Amy, the founder of SERF and director of Bespoke Experience...

Hi Molly,

I wish you could have been here yesterday, I think it was THE highlight of my journey since this dream began 4 and a half years ago…

Yesterday really was a momentous day in Guludo village; the first day of the School Feeding Project. However, even before then, word of the project had rippled through the village and enrolment at Guludo Primary School had rocketed. The Guludo community rely almost entirely on subsistence living with severe food shortages for approximately ¼ of the year, hence parents prefer sending their children to the family farm rather than to school. Last year less than 100 children attended school, however, this year over 280 children enrolled, highlighting just how great a value one good meal a day has here.

Yesterday was the registration of the kids for the project and a chance for the education committee and teachers to practice cooking and distributing the food before school officially started today. The turn out was better than expected and while the food was being cooked each of the over excited children were registered, weighed, measured (both height and upper arm) and photographed. After this long, but thoroughly enjoyable, process the enormous pot of porridge was bought into the classroom and we started to distribute the food. Helping to distribute the food and watching all these children, almost all of whom are dangerously mal-nourished, eagerly eating JAM’s nutritious porridge was enough to make even the hardest of hearts shed a tear of joy.

This project is going to have a truly profound impact on the lives of these children. Molly (and everyone at Global Angels), I just want to thank you from the bottom of my heart and from all the precious children in Guludo whose futures you have just made so much brighter, for making this happen.

We’ve therefore got names, photos, ages and stats of all the children being fed in Guludo (the last few are being collected tomorrow) and we’ll be pulling everything together this week. As soon as it’s done I’ll send a disc back with someone to send onto you. Meanwhile, here are a few images from yesterday.

Very much love and joy,

Amy
