| | | | "Having learnt from the experience of destructive mass tourism in Eastern Africa, Mozambique have a policy of high quality, low impact tourism, making the high-end ecolodge the perfect model for sustainable tourism.
Guludo Beach Lodge is an award-winning example. Nestled on the edge of pristine waters of the Indian Ocean, inside Quirimbas National Park the lodge brings jobs, education and sustainable development to one of the poorest areas of Mozambique.
Established by the recent New Statesman award-winner for her young social entrepreneurial work with tourism and community development, Amy Carter, Guludo lodge has been running for 18 months, and now employs over 50 local people.
Guludo is a perfect base from which to explore both the terrestrial and marine environment, and Amy is working with conservation groups to ensure that the these areas remain pristine. Based on the shore of a Humpback whale migration route, a research centre has been established to monitor their movements, where the whales pass by daily during the summer months.
Nominated in five award categories, including best for poverty reduction, best marine environment and best hotel. The lodge has a capacity for 18 guests. www.guludo.com"
