GETAWAY MAGAZINE - Guludo, a luxury lodge with heart
Getaway writer Justin Fox visited the northern reaches of Mozambique for February's issue of the South African travel magazine. He sailed over to Guludo as part of his travels around the Southern Quirimbas Archipelago, highlighting the resort in his profile of the region's lodges. Getaway even granted Mustajabu, the resort's locally-crafted dhow that 'sailed like a dream', the magazine cover shot. Fox described Guludo's luxury accommodation as 'safari-style tents with a chic interior' and outlined the company's core concept of ethical tourism.
According to Getaway, 'At Guludo there's good diving and a wide sweep of (very tidal) beach, but the ethos at this British-run lodge is eco-tourism and fair trade. To this end the owners and managers are heavily involved in community projects, social upliftment and education.and guests are encouraged to get stuck in too. The idea behind Bespoke Experience - of which Guludo is a part - is to create luxury resorts designed to complement the environment and help local people. In doing so it hopes to raise international benchmarks against which other ethical tourism companies can be measured.'
