Purchase products selectively with emphasis on reduced packaging, sourcing from renewable and sustainable sources and of low environmental impact 11. Participate in discussions about environmental issues and inform guests of our environmental policies and provide information on environmental issues 12. Protect and conserve the natural environment and wildlife in and around Guludo Beach Lodge
: This will be achieved through 1. Adherence to Mozambican environmental legislation 2. Biannual review of our environmental policy to address areas which may be improved or expanded 3. - The restriction of long haul flights by company employees to 1 per year which will be offset by Nema's carbon offsetting programme (due to start shortly) - The restriction of vehicle use to essential journeys only - Research into a more economical vehicle fleet - Restricting our boat engines to a maximum of 85hp - Using the single petrol generator as efficiently as possible, powering multiple appliances simultaneously 4. - The reduction of waste at source through selective purchasing - Requesting that guests do not bring unnecessary packaging and plastic products to Guludo Beach Lodge - The exclusion of plastic bags into Guludo Beach Lodge and the use of locally made shopping bags - Educating staff on responsible disposal of different waste products - Reducing the use of plastic bottles by increasing the volume of potable water produced - The production of paper and cardboard brickets which will be burned to heat water 5. - The purchase, where available of drinks bottles which may be returned to the depot to be re-filled 6. - The use of composting toilets as standard - Establishing a power supply to Guludo Beach Lodge through renewable energy sources 7. - Sourcing non-harmful cleaning products where available - Utilising natural building and finishing products, avoiding cement, paints and varnishes where unnecessary 8. - Running training sessions on environmental issues including waste management, product use and product selection 9. - Talking with the local community and taking part in meetings and discussions with the Quirimbas National Park regarding our role in achieving the aims of the park management plan - Donating 5% of our income go to the Nema Foundation which works with the local communities in the area through a number of projects including marine conservation. 10. - The selective purchase of local seafood, boycotting coral reef species; we buy only pelagic fish species. Shellfish and crustaceans must exceed a minimum size or weight depending on the species. - Sourcing local products wherever possible. 11. - The production of an information guide available to guests providing information on all aspects of our environmental policy and interests in the environment. - By ensuring that tourism is approached and managed responsibly while benefitting the local communities and environment. 12. - Guludo Beach Lodge is built with minimal visual and environmental impact in order to preserve the natural habitats surrounding us. - When scuba diving, we do not anchor on the coral reef or interfere with any marine habitat or individuals. - When whale watching we do not harass individuals, keeping the recommended 100m from marine mammals at all times. |  |  | |  |
